Ask NKAM to call me Zalo → Call NKAM →How thick can a 1500W laser welder weld stainless?
Weldable thickness depends on the material, the joint type, how closely the joint fits and the speed you need. With a tight joint, a mid-power machine welds considerably thicker than it does across a gap. Select material and thickness below to see the suitable power range.

Joint fit-up matters more than you expect
Laser welding concentrates energy into a very small area. If the two edges do not meet, the energy passes through the gap instead of melting the metal together.
Consequently:
- Laser-cut parts fit far more closely than manually cut or plasma-cut parts — they weld noticeably more easily
- A wide gap requires wire feed to add metal
- A good locating fixture usually improves results more than extra power does
1500W or 2000W?
More power welds thicker and faster. But in this power range the limit is usually not the machine:
- Operator technique determines most of the quality of a handheld weld
- Joint fit-up determines whether the energy goes where it should
- A higher-power machine also draws more electrical load — check the supply at your workshop first
If most of your work is thin to medium stainless, the power difference matters less than fixturing and training.
Safety is not optional
Handheld laser welding requires eyewear matched to the wavelength for everyone in the area, screens or an enclosure, and local fume extraction — from the first day of operation. Include these items in the budget from the start.
How far can this result be trusted?
The power ranges in the table are reference values under standard conditions. Real results vary with joint type, gap, shielding gas, travel speed and technique.
